Edison International (parent company of Southern California Edison) Donates $30,000 to GRID Alternatives Inland Empire to Solarize Three Chino Homes

Nonprofit GRID Alternatives welcomes SCE staff to volunteer installing solar systems for income qualified homeowners.

Chino, CA – April has two important distinctions as it is National Volunteer month and April 22 is Earth Day. To celebrate Earth Day and promote volunteerism, Southern California Edison, one of the nation’s largest electric utilities, has teamed up with GRID Alternatives Inland Empire (GRID IE). GRID will be working with SCE staff to bring clean energy to three Chino homeowners. Donations like these enables businesses to help the communities they work in by making solar energy more accessible. Staff will spend their Saturday installing solar in addition to learning more about solar systems and the impact on families who need it the most.

One of the homeowners receiving solar, David Cibrian, was first introduced to GRID by another nonprofit, Neighborhood Partnership Housing Services (NPHS). David was immediately intrigued when he learned that a GRID solar system could save him up to 90% on his electricity bill. He says, “the savings will pay for food, other bills, and help our daughter. A little savings goes a long ways.”

SCE staff will spend the day learning about construction safety, purposes of different tools, and how to assemble a solar system. Instruction will be led by GRID’s professional Solar Installation Supervisors (SIS) and crew.

Southern California Edison’s donation and volunteer work will result in an equivalent of 7,230 trees planted, 311 tons of greenhouse gases eliminated, and 59 cars removed from the road for a year! To date, over 450 San Bernardino county homeowners have gone solar with GRID.
