The University of Redlands School of Music presents Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 “Ode to Joy”
REDLANDS, Ca — Give your Valentine the gift of music at 8 p.m. Feb. 14, 2018 to hear the University of Redlands Orchestra celebrate Valentine’s Day with a special performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 “Ode to Joy” in the Memorial Chapel.
The performance will feature guest soloists Blythe Cates (soprano), Olga Perez Flora (mezzo soprano), Jamie Flora (tenor), and bass Marty Schaefer (bass). Members of the University Choir, Chapel Singers, Bel Canto, and Inland Master Chorale will join the University Orchestra in this historic performance.
Symphony No.9 premiered in Vienna in 1824. It is considered Beethoven’s greatest and most popular orchestral work. Its timeless melody in the finale, set to a text taken from Friedrich Schiller’s poem “Ode to Joy”, is a hymn to universal brotherhood and a celebration of humanity.
Admission is free and no tickets are required to attend.
