Registration is now open for a family workshop, “Feeling Groovy,” at the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands on Sunday, August 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. Workshop activities are designed for families with children ages 5 and above. A $5 materials fee per participant is requested in addition to regular museum admission and pre-registration is required.

This workshop reflects on themes in the museum’s current special exhibit, “Turn Turn Turn: social movements 1965–75,” on display in the Fisk and Schuiling galleries. In the 1960s, one reaction to the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War was taking action to promote peace. Workshop participants will step back in time and have fun with the symbols and products that retain their meaning even today. Remember tie-dye, peace signs, and flower power? Make works of art that symbolize peace. The museum will supply a handkerchief or guests can bring their own white T-shirts to tie-dye.

“Peace is an enduring subject—peace at home, peace around the world, peace in our hearts. The symbols we’ll be playing with in this workshop are universal in their nature and in their age,” said Jolene Redvale, the museum’s curator of education. “In addition to making peace sign crafts and tie-dye, participants will read peace quotes from world leaders and peacemakers, and write their own peace poems. Come spend a relaxing, joyful afternoon reflecting on what peace means to you and your family – and to the world. Wear your tie-dye or 60s theme outfits to add to the fun!”

The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 am to 5pm. General admission is $8 (adult), $6 (military or senior), $5 (student), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12). Children under five and Museum Association members are admitted free. Parking is free.
