Carnaval of Lights – 4th of July Light Parade & Fireworks Display

La Quinta, CA (June 15, 2012) – A July 4th celebration is brewing in La Quinta with a day that promises to be full of family fun.  Park activities, swimming, food, a chili cook-off and a light parade will be topped off with fireworks aiming to light up the night sky. Presented by the La Quinta Chamber of Commerce, the La Quinta Resort & Club and the Desert Recreation District, the Carnaval of Lights will be held at the La Quinta Community Park at 77-865 Avenida Montezuma in the heart of La Quinta.

From the light parade and entertainment to judging, awards and fireworks, the activities scheduled will make this Independence Day celebration one of the best of the year.  Grand Marshall, Sheriff Stanley Sniff, Jr. kicks off the day with free swimming in Fitz Burns Park from Noon – 5:00 p.m. followed by the Chili Cook-Off at 4:30 p.m. and the Light Parade at 6:00 p.m.

“It’s been quite a while since we had a grand scale 4^th of July event” commented Mark Moran, Board Chair for the La Quinta Chamber of Commerce. “Given the economic circumstances these days, we thought it appropriate to brighten up the day and the sky for everyone who wants to come and help us celebrate” he concluded.

Admission to the event is free. Organizers are inviting resident “chili chefs” and parade participants to join in the fun. Information and applications to enter into the International Chili Society Cook-Off and sign up to participate in the parade are available at the La Quinta Chamber of Commerce.
