The Inland Empire Still the Economic Powerhouse of California

At the Inland Empire's 8th Annual Business Press Economic Briefing on Tuesday, April 4th, 2006, John Husing reported on his annual Economic Briefing hosted by The Business Press. The event was held at the Ontario Convention Center.

Husing reported on current and recent economic and job market conditions and trends and made predictions for the rest of 2006. The statistics and forecasts focus on the Inland Empire and Southern California, but include the entire state of California as well as the rest of the country.

In terms of the United States as a whole, the GDP is expected to return to the level it was at prior to Hurricane Katrina, while short and long interest curves rise at a fairly equal rate and high oil prices continue to be an issue.

Southern California's economy is stronger than the state as a whole, thanks in part to the IE! The Inland Empire has not only had no period of job loss, but has accounted for 46% of the jobs in Southern California in the last fifteen years. In 2004 alone, the IE was responsible for 22% of jobs in all of California, and the 2005 gain was the second highest in history. Also, due to higher-end housing, there has been an increase of residents with a higher education.

Making sure to address both forecast risks and long term issues for last year and this year, the prediction for the rest of 2006 suggests that there is an expected job growth of 46, 200 jobs, with a 3.7% growth rate. Mr. Husing's presentation is not available as of this writing, but was stated it would be available at www.johnhusing.com.

The event was the 8th annual Business Press Economic Briefing, sponsored by PFF Bank and Trust, Account Temps, Brithinee Electric, Soren McAdam Christenson LLP, and Arrowhead Credit Union, among others.
