Brookfield Residential Will Integrate Apple HomeKit Into New Homes

Ontario, CA – Apple is coming to the Inland Empire in a big way. Smart home technology will soon be available to a massive number of homeowners at Ontario Ranch. This is where home builder Brookfield Residential is working with Apple to install HomeKit in the first model homes in Southern California.

HomeKit delivers simple and secure ways to manage and control the home via iOS technology. Homebuyers will be able to experience HomeKit at Brookfield Residential’s Summerset neighborhood, within the 8,200-acre Ontario Ranch masterplan, where 47,000 homes will be built over a 20-year period for up to 162,000 residents.

Currently, a few thousand homes are completed at Ontario and in early 2017, residents will have the option to integrate HomeKit to control thermostats, lights, window shades, door locks and other smart-home devices.

Statement by Adrian Foley, Chief Operating Officer, Brookfield Residential, California, on integrating Apple HomeKit into New Homes:

“At Brookfield Residential, we offer home buyers the ability to customize their home as a part of our new home-design experience.  One of the biggest innovative opportunities we see is the ability to offer technology that both adds joy and convenience and also makes a home more energy-efficient. Apple HomeKit, and the new Home app in iOS, embody those principles by offering a simple, secure and convenient way to control home automation products such as your lights, door locks, or thermostats.  We’re excited to begin offering Apple TV and Apple HomeKit-enabled products to new home buyers this winter.”

The Home app is deeply integrated into iOS, delivering a simple and secure way to set up, manage and control your home in one place. Accessories can be managed individually or grouped into scenes so they work together with a single command and can be controlled by using Siri. They can be managed remotely or set up for home automation with Apple TV®, and can respond with automatic triggers set by time of day, location or action.

Support for HomeKit™ continues to expand globally with nearly 100 home automation products adopting HomeKit this year, bringing support for thermostats, lights, window shades, door locks, video cameras and more to the Home app. Later this year, leading home builders, including Brookfield Residential, KB Home, Lennar Homes and R&F Properties, will begin integrating many of these HomeKit devices into new homes.
