Experience for our Board, Commitment to our County

Fontana, CA – San Bernardino County Supervisor and current Chair of the Board, Janice Rutherford, announces she will be seeking reelection in 2014.  Rutherford was first elected to the board in 2010 and represents the Second District, covering large portions of Upland and Fontana, all of Rancho Cucamonga, and the unincorporated communities of the west end foothills and the Rim of the World.

“I am extremely proud of the work we have been able to accomplish over the last two and a half years,” said Rutherford.  “Our focus on government efficiency and reform, as well as responsible budgeting, has afforded our board the ability to focus on job creation for our residents, economic development for the County, and the funding of core services such as public safety.”

Rutherford has always been drawn to public service.  After graduating from college, Rutherford spent her time volunteering with local campaigns, as well as with the Fontana Boys & Girls Club and the local Boy Scout District.

Since that time, Rutherford’s desire to serve and her dedication to improving the region’s quality of life has led her to numerous appointed and elected positions.  Her positions have included Member and Chair of the Fontana Planning Commission, City Councilwoman and Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Fontana, as well as Chair for both the Fontana Redevelopment Agency and the Fontana Fire District.  Before being elected to the Board of Supervisors, Rutherford also served as the Chief of Staff to Bill Leonard during his time in both the California State Assembly and State Senate.

“There is no one more versed on the issues or committed to the residents of this County than Jan.  Since being elected to the board, her work on balancing the budget, government reform, and job creation has been indispensable,” said Rancho Cucamonga Mayor Dennis Michael.

Rutherford is the immediate past president of the San Bernardino County Association of Governments, and has represented the County on the Local Area Formation Committee, Inland Empire Health Plan, and Southern California Water Committee.  Janice has received numerous awards for her community service including the 63rd Assembly District’s Woman of the Year, A Woman of Distinction by the West End YWCA, Alumni of the Year by Chaffey College, and “Mother of Achievement” by the California Chapter of American Mothers. She has received the National Medallion from the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and has been honored by the Inland Empire Hispanic Leadership Council.

Janice and her husband, Steve Young Lim have been married since 2005, and live in Rancho Cucamonga with their two sons.
