Riverside, CA – December 14, 2013 – Join in on the celebration of the 18th Annual T-N-T, Toys n’ Turkey Drives benefiting the Salvation Army Corps of Riverside on Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 10 a.m. till 6:00 p.m.
This annual event was created 18 years ago by a gentleman by the name of Jack Howell. When Jack was a child he remembers men and women coming over for Christmas, bringing food and toys for himself and his siblings. As Jack grew into adulthood his mother explained to him that as a single mother with children she could not afford to feed her children and give them gifts for Christmas. She then told Jack that the kind and generous people who brought gifts and food, were volunteers from The Salvation Army. Jack then knew at that moment he wanted to show his gratitude and appreciation.
Jack Howell has made this event what it is today!! Last year the drive collected over 450 Turkeys and enough non-perishable food items to go along with the 450 turkeys. “Our goal this year is to feed 1,000 families. With the economy in its current state more and more families are registering with the Salvation Army for Christmas food baskets and gifts” stated Jack Howell.
Volunteers will be collecting new unwrapped children’s toys and non-perishable food items on Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00pm at Discount Hydroponics of Riverside. The event will also include a drawing to win over $40,000 in prizes that were donated by local Riverside businesses. All proceeds from this event will go to the Salvation Army Corps of Riverside. There will also be food and beverage for anyone who attends.
If you want to donate, several donation sites have been set up throughout the Inland Empire that will accept toys and non-perishable food items through December 14, 2013. The Salvation Army Corps of Riverside provides many Social Services for Families in need here in Riverside. Some services include clothing, furniture, utility assistance, rental assistance, shelter and other homeless services, and Emergency Shelter Assistance.
