2010-2011 Calendar of Events
The UCR DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE
produces a full season of first-rate theatrical productions throughout the academic year, including classic and new plays that reflect the diversity and interests of the UCR.  The 2010-2011 season includes: Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind and translated by Jonathan Franzen; How I Learned to Drive by Paula Vogel; Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare;  iFamily, a touring production for the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts by Kate Anger; Playworks, original works by UCR Playwrights, and a festival of original plays written by MFA graduate students in the Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts program.

SPRING AWAKENING by Frank Wedekind, translated by Jonathan Franzen
In a culture where lies about adolescence prevail, this funny and honest play is more relevant than ever”-unsettling even in our own sex-saturated culture.

HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE by Paula Vogel
With subtle humor and erotic encounters, the tale of a young woman who learns the rules of the road and life from behind the wheel.

A shipwrecked castaway disguises herself as a boy and becomes entangled in an awkward love triangle.  Love on the brain-things come unglued-happy ending!

MFA PLAY FESTIVAL by UCR Graduate Playwrights
An exciting festival of full-length plays by students in the UCR MFA Playwriting Program-a different work is presented at each performance in rotating repertory.

May 25 – 28, Wednesday – Saturday, 8:00 pm
PLAYWORKS by UCR Undergraduate Playwrights
Premiere productions exploring issues and textures of contemporary life by the best UCR student playwrights.  A different slate of work is scheduled for each performance.
Theatre Lab, Humanities 411, located next to the University Theatre
Free and open to the public   Parking: $5 in Lot 6
