4 Tips for a Safe Fourth of July

Corona, Ca – July 4th is a time of celebration- backyard grilling, neighborhood gatherings, and fireworks displays. Unfortunately, July is also peak month for grill fires, and every year, thousands of people are treated for injuries related to fireworks. Also, more pets go missing on the Fourth of July than any other day of the year.

As you prepare to celebrate, the Corona Fire Department and Corona Police Department would like to remind you to take the following precautions to keep you, your family, pets, and neighborhoods safe.

1. Fireworks are illegal in the City of Corona. Attend a public fireworks display and leave the lighting to the professionals. Residents are encouraged to attend the free Independence Day Celebration on Thursday, July 4 at 5 p.m. at Santana Park. Enjoy live music, food vendors, and fireworks at sundown. The best way to protect your family is to not use fireworks at home. Please leave 9-1-1 lines open for emergencies. If you witness firework violations, report them by calling the Corona Police Department at (951) 736-2330, option 3.

2. Make sure your pet’s ID tags are up-to-date and securely fastened to your pet’s collar. Consider microchipping your pets at the Corona Animal Shelter. Microchips are designed to quickly identify pets and reunite them with their owners should they become lost.

3. Fire up the grill! But only outdoors and never on porches. Keep children and pets away from the grill and never leave it unattended. Only you can prevent grill fires!

4. While we know swimming will most likely be in your Fourth of July plans, never swim alone. Avoid using alcohol around water. And please, NEVER leave children unattended near any body of water.

The City of Corona wishes you a safe, wonderful Independence Day!
