Pomona, Ca – More than 600 female K-12 students in the Cal Poly Pomona Femineer® Program showcased the engineering and robotics projects they have spent weeks building and coding alongside their teachers and other femineers.
Projects included a knight and dragon; a “girl” with a beating heart that pulsed with light; miniature spinning tea cup rides; a Ferris wheel activated at a ticket booth; a small BB-8 droid; wearable technology in the form of light up designs on hats, ties, backpacks and t-shirts; and Raspberry Pi “cars” travelling a course with cameras.
The Femineer® Program was founded in 2013 in the College of Engineering to inspire women and girls to pursue STEM in their education and career choices. The program is now active in 84 schools in 4 states.
Femineers is hosted by the Cal Poly Pomona College of Engineering, which is recognized among the best in nation for undergraduate programs. The university has a student body of approximately 26,000 students and is known for its emphasis on hands-on learning.
