Riverside CA – Dr. Jonathan Lorenzo Yorba, President and CEO of The Community Foundation (TCF), recently visited “52”, an exhibition currently on view at the Riverside Art Museum. He spent time looking at the exhibition and speaking with featured artist Sue Mitchell, who was in residency at the museum. After a few minutes, he told Mitchell, “I will be back shortly; I am going to get the rest of The Community Foundation staff. I want them to experience this.”
“This exhibition has a profound effect on me,“ says Yorba. “I believe that everyone in our community should have the opportunity to view the work created during one woman’s inspiring artistic journey. Much like The Community Foundation – which emphasizes a connection with, and commitment to, the sense of ‘place’ – Sue Mitchell has a deep relationship, not only with Riverside, but also with Fairmount Park and its magnificent beauty and wonder.”
Toward this end, a grant from The Community Foundation is funding free admission to the Riverside Art Museum to the public during the dates of December 20, 2013 – January 4, 2014. Recently, TCF honored its Legacy Society named in honor of Charles and Clara Brouse, visionary philanthropists who in 1941 established in Riverside what is today The Community Foundation. “Instead of using funds to provide the guests a memento marking the recent special event that was held at The Mission Inn,” explains Yorba, “the Foundation is honoring those donors by providing this grant to the community in their honor.”
In addition to the exhibition “52,” the public is invited to view the contemporary photography of Lanakila MacNaughton in Women Who Ride and landscape paintings in The Riverside Legacy: California Plein Air Paintings Past and Present.
RAM will have special extended hours until 9 p.m. on Friday, December 20, and Sunday, December 22, in conjunction with the Festival of Lights celebration. On December 22 from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., the public is invited to meet the artist behind Women Who Ride, Lanakila MacNaughton.
RAM relies on the generosity of members and donors to support its exhibitions, education programs, and special events. A 60-plus-year-old, private, non-profit cultural arts institution housed in a National Historic 1929 building designed by Hearst Castle and AIA Gold Medal-winning architect Julia Morgan, the museum welcomes over 50,000 visitors a year.
