Agency Receives $10,000 Grant for Foreclosure Prevention Counseling

Riverside, CA – November 3, 2010 – Springboard Nonprofit Consumer Credit Management announced today its receipt of a grant for $10,000 from the U.S. Bancorp Foundation.   The grant will help Springboard support operating expenses for services and outreach to low-moderate income residents in the Inland Empire.

The grant will assist with homeownership preservation and foreclosure prevention education and counseling, along with supporting Springboard’s financial literacy initiatives.

“We are so very thankful to the U.S. Bancorp Foundation for their generous donation,” said Todd Emerson, Springboard’s President and CEO. “The funding comes at a critical point as the rate of home foreclosures has reached record levels in the Inland Empire.”

Springboard counselors speak with homeowners everyday who are anxious to stay in their homes and remain in the communities where they live and their children go to school.  Advising consumers about the free counseling available to them lets them know where they can turn to when there is a problem, and what resources are available to them.

“We look forward to assisting distressed homeowners through personal financial counseling and helping them work with their lenders to find options and possible solutions to their mortgage problems,” said Emerson. The grant funds also cover localized community outreach at various venues to publicize Springboard’s efforts and to alert the public to related issues, such as predatory foreclosure rescue scams.

The grant will also support Springboard’s financial literacy initiatives, which includes deployment of their Mobile Outreach Valuable Education workshops delivered in English and Spanish at various venues in the Inland Empire; financial education through Springboard’s FIT (Financial Instruction Training) Academy courses (fit.credit.org) conducted online and at Springboard’s Riverside SHINE Center (Sustainable Homeownership INland Empire).

In 2009, Springboard educated more than 11,000 consumers through 450 community based financial literacy workshops, classes and seminars held throughout Southern California.

Springboard is certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a comprehensive housing agency and is accredited by the Council on Accreditation as a provider of high quality financial education and counseling services.
