Apple Valley: Family Fun Day Shakes Things Up!

Apple Valley: Are you ready for the “big one?”  Find out at the Victor Valley Museum on Saturday, June 4 during a Family Fun Day, “Shake It Up: All Geology, All Day Long,” from 11am to 3pm. This program is included in paid museum admission.

A variety of presentations, displays, and hands-on activities will shed light on such topics as earthquakes and earthquake preparedness, rocks, minerals, and fossils. Activities will include rock-sorting, earthquake simulation, the basics of rock collecting, and a take-home paint-a-replica fossil project.

“Do you know how close you live to the famous San Andreas Fault?” asked Museum Educator Karen Saffle. “Have you ever read a list of ingredients from a toothpaste box or a shampoo bottle to see all the minerals they contain? Do you know how to organize a rock collection? Have fun discovering how geology affects our everyday lives.”
