Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Family Medicine Residency Program. As the hospital’s oldest and largest program, it began with eight residents and now has 44. The program is directed toward combining current trends in Family Medicine training with a strong background in clinical skills, while tailoring the training to the needs and interests of each resident.
ARMC Family Medicine residents provide inpatient care and outpatient care for all age groups both in ARMC’s off-site Family Health Centers and at the main hospital located in Colton. Graduates of the Family Medicine Residency Program are in constant demand as the program is well known for producing competent and capable Family physicians.
“Our 50th anniversary marks an important milestone to celebrate the strength and importance of the program,” said Residency Program Director, Niren Raval, D.O. “Moving forward, we plan to expand the Family Medicine Residency Program to provide even more highly skilled and compassionate Family doctors for our communities, while adapting our curriculum to the ever-increasing complexity and sophistication of today’s health care landscape.”
The Family Medicine Residency Program was created in 1968 when the County Board of Supervisors approved an agreement between the San Bernardino County Hospital and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The residency program officially started with eight residents from UCLA. In 1999, the Medical Center was moved to a new hospital and the name was changed to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC). The Family Medicine Residency Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
