Art, Music and Performance in Fontana this September

Fontana, California, August 30, 2011 – The Mayor and City Council invite residents to Fontana’s many art events this September. This month’s events include performances, live music and visual art in a variety of styles that are sure to delight all in Downtown Fontana.

This September, enjoy Performance Tuesdays at the Steelworkers’ Auditorium, located at 8437 Sierra Ave. Attendees can experience a variety of theater, music, dance, cultural art and educational performances for free on select Tuesday nights!

The first performance this month is ““The Senryu Taiko Experience.” residents can expand their cultural and artistic knowledge by attending this showcase of music and dance demonstrating the art of taiko drumming on Tuesday September 6 at 6:30 p.m.

The next event for September is “California Sumo.” Learn about the Japanese culture and ancient sport of Sumo at this live demonstration on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. The third event this

September is “Solo Guitar.” Listen to the soothing music of guitarist Rob Reynolds at the courtyard of the Lewis Library on Tuesday, September 20 at 5:30 p.m.

“ACME Balloon Story Art” is the final event for September. Attendees will experience interactive storytelling that will come to life through balloon art on Tuesday, September 27 at 6:30 p.m.

Also at the Steelworkers’ Auditorium, the “Roving Art Reception” will take place on September 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The reception will display art from all three of Fontana’s galleries. Light refreshments will be served.

This September the Art Depot will run an exhibit for artist Rebecca Peck from September 6 to September 23. Come Experience the beautiful ceramic and painted works of this talented artist.

Open Studio classes are also offered by the Art Depot this month. For a $3 material fee participants learn about artistic styles and techniques such as pop art and watercolor. Open studio classes are Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Art Depot Gallery is located at 16822 Spring Street.

The nearby Center Stage Theatre, located downtown at 8463 Sierra Avenue, has several events for September.

Noches con Ritmo continues at The Center Stage Theatre on the first and third Thursdays of September. The night features hours of Latin music and dance instruction. Appetizers and beverages are available to order. This month will have music from Son Mayor on September 1, and the Susie Hansen Latin Band on September 15. Dance instruction starts at 7 p.m., followed by live music and dancing at 8 p.m. Admission is open to adults 18 and older for a $5 entrance fee.

For September only, “The Nostalgia Show” is coming to the Center Stage Theatre.

The nationally touring production of “NOSTALGIA” takes you down memory lane with your 57’ Chevy as we remember the times and people who changed our lives. You’ll be taken back to that fateful day at Pearl Harbor and travel through the 40′s, 50′s, and 60′s until the first steps are taken on the lunar surface. Nationally touring stand-up comedian Randy Riggle will be your tour guide on a trip filled with songs and laughs in this 90 minute one-man show.

Randy entertains his audiences with stories, gun slinging, dancing, and pantomime. His observational humor about the era is complimented with over 50 impersonations and a special tribute to veterans. The entire revue is backed with a multi-media slide presentation.

“The Nostalgia Show” is matinee only and runs at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11. Fontana Residents receive a 25 percent discount on tickets for the performance. Show only tickets are $13.50, and Dinner & Show tickets are $29.95.

Starting this September, “XANADU” will come to the Center Stage Theatre.

“XANADU” follows the journey of Greek muse, Kira, who descends from Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO. But when Kira falls into forbidden love, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

This hilarious roller-skating musical adventure rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar. It’s hilarity on wheels for adults, children and anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired.

“XANADU” starts on September 23 and runs on Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Fontana Residents receive a 25 percent discount on any tickets purchased for September 23rd, 24th, 25th, 30th and October 7th performances.
