Art programs at the Museum all weekend long

Visitors are invited to participate in art programs at the San Bernardino County  Museum in Redlands on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 16, 17, and 18.  These Arts, Naturally! programs are sponsored in part by the James Irvine Foundation, and are included in paid museum admission.

On Friday, July 16, artist Terry Long will lead three workshops, “Painting Made Simple: Watercolor,” at 10am, 1pm and 3pm. Participants will explore basic concepts of composition and use of the watercolor medium. Long is a professor of art at the University of Redlands and he has been leading art workshops at the museum for several weeks. This workshop is appropriate for children age 5 and up. Additional activities will be available for younger children.

On Saturday, July 17, artist Joey Novotny will lead two workshops on graphic lettering where participants will learn techniques for creating their own lettering styles, and complete a logo design project. Graphic lettering and logos are used in every business and are a source of income for graphic designers and artists. Designed for ages 12 and above, these workshops will be from 9am to noon, and 2pm to 5pm. Those interested in attending should arrive 10 minutes before the start of the workshop.

On Sunday, July 18, Terry Long will offer “Photography Made Simple: Landscapes,” at 1pm and 3pm. Visitors will use their own point-and-shoot or cell phone cameras to explore elements of photographic composition and lighting. The popularity and accessibility of these cameras makes photography available to everyone. This workshop will offer ideas for making casual and candid photographs more artistic. For more information about these and upcoming program, contact Curator of Education Jolene Redvale at 909-307-2669 ext. 252.
