Rancho Cucamonga, California – In celebration of the community-wide Big Read featuring The Joy Luck Club, Rancho Cucamonga Library Services will host The Big Read 2016 Kickoff Event on Wednesday, May 4th at 6:30 p.m. at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center. To complement The Joy Luck Club’s themes of transformation and hope, the Big Read Kickoff event will feature a book signing for Allen Callaci, local author of Heart Like a Starfish.
Rancho Cucamonga is one of over 75 communities nationwide participating in The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) designed to restore reading to the center of American culture by providing citizens with the opportunity to read and discuss a single book within their communities. The NEA presents The Big Read in cooperation with Arts Midwest. The Big Read brings together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure and enlightenment.
Rancho Cucamonga Library Services’ Big Read events focusing on The Joy Luck Club will occur throughout the month of May and will include a keynote event featuring a local community college professor, as well as several book discussions, a movie showing and a special program for children, The Little Read. The Big Read finale will be held at Asian- Pacific Islander Heritage Night on Friday, May 20th from 7:00 -9:00 p.m. at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center.
