The Blues For the Zoo concert Celebrating 50 Years of Sanctuary on behalf of the Moonridge Animal Park turned out to be a success on many levels. The August 7th event entertained a large a crowd at the Swim Beach grounds for a day of steamy blues and cool breezes along with a freshly prepared food menu and display of local artisans’ wares. The Delta Guitar Slingers featuring Lucky Peterson, Michael Burks and Sherman Robertson made a splash as they wandered through the crowd with guitars ringing. Guy Davis delivered some stunning acoustic blues on banjo and guitar, with stories to fire everyone’s imagination. And Big Bear favorites Cafe R&B took over the stage for a set of classic electric blues, ala Etta James.
The clear skies and moderate weather set a perfect tone for a relaxed afternoon, with crowd flow, food and beverage sales all moving without a hitch. The Swim Beach was open to concert attendees allowing for a dip in the water to the strains of modern guitar with a blues backbeat.
Friends of the Moonridge Zoo, promoters of the event were pleased to report a profit for the day, all of which is earmarked for the medical program at the Moonridge Animal Park. The park is one of the only Alpine wildlife sanctuaries and rehabilitation centers in the U.S. Planners are in discussions about a follow-up concert for 2011.
