Boys & Girls Club of San Bernardino Announces Annual Fundraiser

“Classically Black… A Night at the Symphony” To Showcase Classically Trained African American Musicians

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF.The Boys & Girls Club of San Bernardino is pleased to announce its annual fundraiser, “Classically Black… A Night at the Symphony,” a concert showcasing classically trained African American musicians.  This year’s event will feature internationally acclaimed pianist, Eldred Marshall, classically trained hip-hop violinist and self-proclaimed “maestro,” Lee England, Jr., and include other nationally known musicians along with a sampling of the community’s up-and-coming local talent.  The event will take place Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010 at the historical California Theatre of Performing Arts in San Bernardino.   Doors open at 3:00 p.m.  The concert will begin at 4:30 p.m.

“This event promises to enlighten the community and perhaps even inspire a young person to pursue a career in classical music,” said A. Majadi, Club president and chief executive officer.  “At a time when many school music programs are facing drastic cuts or elimination altogether, it’s important to provide our youth this musical experience,” said Majadi.

The event is being sponsored by the Wilmer Amina Carter Foundation, San Bernardino County Fifth District Supervisor Josie Gonzales, and Arrowhead Medical Center.  Tickets are $10 for K through 12 students, $20 for general admission, and $40 for VIP, which includes premiere seating and a private reception.   Proceeds from the event will help support the Club’s ongoing programs and enhance its newly developed music department.  Attendees are also encouraged to bring toys to help support the Club’s Annual Holiday Toy Giveaway, which serves more than 600 children and their families.

Sponsorship information may be obtained by calling the Boys & Girls Club of San Bernardino at (909) 888.6751.
