Brother II Brother and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to Host Mentoring Day

Brother II Brother and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., EMBODI program, will team with University of California Riverside male student organization, B.L.A.A.C.K on May 12, 2012 to host Mentoring Day.

The event is once again supported by UCR African Student Programs and Riverside County Supervisor  Bob Buster’s office. Supervisor Buster acknowledges the importance and need of mentoring and encourages individuals to become mentors so they can contribute to the positive development of all youth.

Brother II Brother has been recognized both locally and nationally for its work with at-risk boys ages 11-19. Many of which are often seeking positive role models and direction to help detour them away from unproductive destructive behavior. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., through its EMBODI program, continues to play a significant national role in supporting mentoring outreaches that lead to black male student achievement. Recently, the collaboration was awarded the Riverside NAACP “Roy Wilkins” Presidents award by Ms. Woodie Rucker Hughes.

The event is Free, however, participants must sign-up.
Parent/Guardian approval is required.

Mentoring Day will take place at the HUB on UCR campus, May 12 from 8a – 1p. Meals will be served. The student organization B.L.A.A.C.K, will hold a special presentation on college admission, acceptance and stigmas. Additional mentoring discussions involving problem solving, anger management, motivation, academic achievement, sports, responsibility at home, school and community, as well as, success-building skills will be held.
