Redlands, CA – Thanks to the support of California Senator Jean Fuller (R-District 18), the Golden State has joined the growing list of states passing resolutions to observe the National Day of the Cowboy. SCR 48 was chaptered by the Secretary of State on July 14th. The measure recognizes July 23rd, 2011, as the National Day of the Cowboy, “and would encourage the people of the State of California to observe the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”
Folks in the Inland Empire looking to celebrate National Day of the Cowboy can do so at “Read ‘em Cowboy!” – a free fun day hosted by Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Redlands. Over half a dozen Western authors will sign books and give talks, while children’s authors – and special guests, the reigning San Bernardino Sheriff’s Rodeo Queens – will do readings and other activities with kids. There’ll also be live cowboy music by the Coyote Creek Ramblers, historical displays, roping demonstration, raffles, and cowboy vittles in the B&N café. Guests are encouraged to wear their best Western duds; there’ll be a cowboy/cowgirl costume contest for youngsters 12 and under, plus one free raffle ticket for adults who come dressed Western.
A portion of Barnes and Noble’s sales from the event will go directly to the Western Writers of America’s Homestead Foundation, which promotes the literary preservation of Western culture, history and traditions
Even those who can’t make the event can participate by making a purchase at any B&N store from July 23-28 and presenting the voucher found on the event’s Facebook page at checkout.
