California State Budget Passes with $3M Allocated for New General Plan for the City of San Bernardino

James Ramos - John Valdivia

San Bernardino, CA – The 2019 California state budget recently passed with $3 million of the budget allocated to the development of a new general plan for the City of San Bernardino, thanks to the request for funds made by Assemblymember James C. Ramos.

The comprehensive update to the City’s General Plan is a critical component in establishing long-range development policies that will support the financial health of the community. This funding will provide critical support to develop general plan amendments and make investments in affordable housing and community development.

“As elected leaders is it our job to give the tools to the local agencies, to make sure they can fulfill their promises to the local citizens,” stated James Ramos. “With an updated general plan, San Bernardino can work on solutions to the questions that affect us all. One of those driving questions is homelessness in San Bernardino.”

Assemblymember James C. Ramos presented the City of San Bernardino a commemorative $3 million check to celebrate securing funding in the 2019-2020 California state budget for the city to update their general plan. He will be joined by San Bernardino Mayor John Valdivia and City Manager Teri Ledoux.

The San Bernardino general plan has not been updated since 2005. With the success of Assemblymember Ramos securing $3 million to fund updates to the general plan, the city can direct short-term and long-term resources towards affordable housing, open space, and economic development.
