Celebrate an Evening of Astronomy in Fontana

Fontana, California – The Mayor and City Council invite the public to celebrate an “Evening Star Party” at the Mary Vagle Nature Center.

This free “Evening Star Party” event will host the Riverside Astronomical Society as they take observers on a tour of the night sky. Attendees will have the opportunity to view planets, star clusters, galaxies and nebulae. Also, amateur astronomers will be available to answer questions about star gazing, telescopes and astronomy. The event takes place at the Nature Center on Friday, October 15 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Community Service Coordinator Rick Dean said this event is “a great opportunity for families to come look at celestial objects.” He also said that residents who are interested in astronomy can also “get answers to questions such as what kinds of telescopes are good to start with, as well as what groups and clubs are in our area.”

The Mary Vagle Nature Center is a natural refuge where the public can experience urban ecology, which is the study of wildlife, trees, rivers and natural open spaces found within cities. The center has several educational exhibits about local plants, animals, geology and history. The Nature Center also offers various programs and activities to families, scouts and schools that incorporate a hands-on learning approach about the natural world.

The Mary Vagle Nature Center is located at 11501 Cypress Avenue in Fontana and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. For more information about the Evening Star Party and other upcoming events please call (909) 349-6994 or visit nature.fontana.org.
