National Public Lands Day: September 25
The Nature Center will celebrate this year’s National Public Lands Day event with volunteer projects from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm; to be followed by an environmental education festival from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The free environmental fair features hands-on activities for families and children, live-animal demonstrations, and information provided by local resource agencies.
National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort focused on improving and enhancing the public lands Americans share and enjoy. “This event is a great opportunity to not only become acquainted with all of our wonderful public open spaces available to us in the area, but to also learn how you can get involved in conserving and caring for them,” said Rick Dean, Community Services Coordinator.
The Mary Vagle Nature Center is a natural refuge where the public can experience urban ecology, which is the study of wildlife, trees, rivers and natural open spaces found within cities. Inside the center are educational exhibits about local plants, animals, geology and history. The Nature Center also offers many programs to families, scouts, and schools that incorporate a hands-on learning approach about the natural world.
The Mary Vagle Nature Center is located at 11501 Cypress Ave in Fontana and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
