Celebrate International Museum day with "Families Making Memories"

Want a free day of family fun? As part of its focus on “Young Children, Priority One”, The Kiwanis Club of Redlands Noon, in partnership with the San Bernardino County Museum, will host, “Families Making Memories: Art Begins at Birth,” on Sunday May 22 from 10am to 5pm at the San Bernardino County Museum. Free admission and activities are sponsored by The Kiwanis Club of Redlands Noon.

Emphasizing that “art begins at birth,” this event will provide child-friendly, hands-on creative interactive experiences for youth (with an emphasis on ages 0-5 years) and their families and caregivers. Activities will include chalk art, making paper puppets, face painting, collage, musical performances, and other fun activities. Food will be available for purchase at a minimal cost.

Visitors will have an opportunity to interact with and read a story to therapy dogs, provided by the “PAWS 4 Happiness” canine therapy group. Shannon Sawicki will lead Drums Alive for an interactive drum demonstration. Lakeshore Learning Store, and Building a Generation will provide both art activities and product information. Junior University Musical Theatre will give out discount coupons to everyone for their 2011 production of Cinderella and have a free raffle for 6 family tickets. Participants will be able to design recyclable bags at the Greenpeace table, and paint with international assemblage artist Dennis Hare. Balloon artist Matthew Bell is returning to create balloon sculptures for all.

“For 89 years The Kiwanis Club of Redlands Noon has been involved in service benefiting young children and our community,” said Terrill Levinson Wickham, Ph.D., local Psychologist and Kiwanis “Young Children, Priority One” committee chair. “This the second consecutive year we have worked with the museum sponsoring ‘Art Begins at Birth’ to recognize International Museum Day. We encourage families to attend and participate in this great event.”
