Congressman McKeon Votes to Extend Low Student Loan Interest Rates
Washington, D.C. –  Congressman Howard P. “Buck” McKeon voted in favor of the Conference Report to H.R. 4348, Moving Ahead forProgress in the 21st Century Act. This bill not only ensures that interest rates on new subsidized student loans will remain at 3.4% for one additional year, but also includes a package of targeted and responsible highway and public transportation investment programs.

The House of Representatives and the Senate both agreed on this packaged legislation that reauthorizes highway programs through 2014, reauthorizes the National Flood Insurance Program, extends student loan interest rates for one year, and provides much needed pension relief with robust reforms to protect taxpayers.

“I am very pleased that we are able to work together to provide relief to so many young Americans worried about the possibility of their student loan interest rates increasing. This comes at a much-needed time, as young Americans already facing the prospects of an uncertain economy are seeking assurances that the federal government won’t add an additional burden on their backs. It is imperative to put partisan politics to protect our future generation’s success. America is a beacon of opportunity and our students deserve access to affordable education in order to ensure the future strength of the economy and America’s competitiveness.”
