Corona Launches Tax & Budget App For Citizen Engagement

Corona Budget App

CORONA, CA – The City of Corona Administrative Services Division together with the Information Technology Department are proud to introduce the Citizen Tax Receipt and Balancing Act budget engagement app.  These apps are designed to make the budget more transparent to residents.

“These new tools on our website have paired financial transparency with data transparency to truly engage our residents,” said City Manager Darrell Talbert. “This is just one example of how our I.T. department is collaborating with several city departments to provide digital tools to better the city; additional tools are expected to be released in the coming months as well.”

The Citizen Tax Receipt app is intended to provide an estimate to Corona residents on where their tax dollars go. Sales and property taxes funds are spent on City services such as police, fire, library, parks, street maintenance, administration, and public works. Sales and property taxes are split among several different entities including the county and schools. By simply entering your age, income, and the value of your home, the tool will show you an estimate of your tax bill and where the money is spent. The application calculates taxes on real estate and estimates taxes on restaurant meals and sales based on age and income. It does not include fees for water, sewer, trash, and storm water.

After reviewing your Tax Receipt Estimate, residents are given the opportunity to engage by utilizing the Balancing Act application. This portion provides a graphical representation of the general fund budget.  The simulator allows residents to adjust revenues and expenditures to create a balanced budget, while providing feedback on service and spending priorities which the city can use as it develops future budgets.

Both applications are available in English and Spanish, and can be found website at www.CoronaCA.gov/BalancingAct

“We are excited to provide the Tax Receipt and Balancing Act applications to our community, so they can be a part of the budgeting process,” said Assistant City Manager & Administrative Services Director Kerry Eden. “We hope residents gain valuable insight into the world of city budgeting through the use of these tools.”
