InlandEmpire.US – National League of Cities President James Mitchell, Jr., has announced the appointment of Ontario Councilman Alan Wapner to the National League of Cities’ (NLC) 2011 Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Advocacy Steering Committee. This Committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions in the areas of crime prevention, public safety, homeland security, disaster preparedness and response, substance abuse, and municipal fire policy.
As a longtime Councilman and retired Ontario Police Officer, Wapner knows firsthand the public safety issues confronting cities. As a member of this committee he will be able to use this knowledge to help craft and influence national public safety policy as it affects cities. This is Wapner’s third term on this committee.
As a member of the committee, Wapner will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions, while advocating on behalf of America’s cities and towns on Capitol Hill, with the Administration, and at home.
The chair of this year’s Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee is Erich Von Hackney, council member, Lumberton, North Carolina. Serving as this year’s vice chairs are Pete Constant, council member, San Jose, California, and Isaac (Ike) Robinson, Jr., commissioner, West Palm Beach, Florida.
