To celebrate National Fossil Day on Wednesday, October 12, curators from the San Bernardino County Museum’s Geological Sciences division will offer sneak peek tours of new paleontology exhibits being installed in the museum’s Hall of Geological Wonders.
“Visitors can be among the first to see our new vision for the Hall of Geological Wonders,” said Senior Curator Kathleen Springer. “Ice Age fossils from southern California’s inland valleys demonstrate the effects of climate change and the process of fossilization in the new exhibit, ‘Life to Death to Discovery.’ ”
Informal tours will run from 10 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Funding for exhibits in the Hall of Geological Wonders has been provided in part by grants from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
National Fossil Day is a celebration organized by the National Park Service and the American Geological Institute along with local partners to promote public awareness and stewardship of fossils, as well as to foster a greater appreciation of their scientific and educational value.
The San Bernardino County Museum is at the California Street exit from Interstate 10 in Redlands. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 9 am to 5pm. General admission is $8 (adult), $6 (military or senior), $5 (student), and $4 (child aged 5 to 12). Children under five and Museum Association members are admitted free. Parking is free.
