December Events at the Mary Vagle Nature Center

Fontana, California, November 22, 2011.  The Mayor and City Council invite the public to attend upcoming events taking place at the Mary Vagle Nature Center this December.

If you or your family has never had the pleasure of visiting the Mary Vagle Nature Center, this December is the perfect month to get introduced. On Saturday, December 10th from noon to 5 p.m. the center will be hosting its Holiday Open House. The day will be filled with fun activities for the whole family, including seasonal nature crafts, face painting and live animal demonstrations that are completely FREE.

“Winter is a great month to be outside in southern California’s parks and natural areas.  Migrant winter birds, only seen in winter, show up, and many of our native plants begin to bloom,” said Rick Dean, Community Services Coordinator for the Nature Center.

So come on by to experience the out of doors in our pleasant California winter! There will also be several reoccurring weekend programs offered at the Center.

For parents with children between the ages of three and six, satisfy their curiosity with the weekend program Adventure into Nature. Your little adventurers will enjoy quests that include a nature walk, hands on crafts and live animal displays. This event will be offered on Saturday, December 10th at noon and will continuously be offered the second Saturday of each month. The cost is only $3 per child.

If you are looking to get a natural workout join the Nature Center’s Discovery Hike on Saturday, December 3rd at 9:30 a.m., where you will enjoy a guided hike in the Jurupa Hills. This event, which occurs on the first Saturday of the month, is free and open to all ages. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Nature Rangers is another exciting free weekend program. Here families and children ages seven and older can enjoy performing fun outdoor investigations. Guided by a naturalist, children will get to use binoculars, magnifying glasses and other scientific tools to investigate the park area and pond, looking for everything from turtles to insects. In addition, they will meet some of the Nature Center’s collection of live animals. If you want to participate in this exploration join them on Saturday, December 17th at noon, or every third Saturday of the month.

The Mary Vagle Nature Center is located at 11501 Cypress Avenue in Fontana and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about events at the Mary Vagle Nature Center, please call the Center at (909) 349-6994 or visit their website at  nature.fontana.org.
