Arrowhead United Way Thanks Corporate and Community Leaders for Commitment to Education, Income and Health During Annual Awards Breakfast

San Bernardino, CA – In recognition of their fifteen years of community service, Dr. Albert and Marilyn Karnig were recognized by Arrowhead United Way with the Exemplary Community Service award during United Way’s 2012 Annual Meeting and Awards Breakfast held at the National Orange Show and Events Center. “With Dr. Karnig retiring from California State University San Bernardino this year, we wanted to publicly thank the Karnigs for the tremendous support they have both given to this community and to Arrowhead United Way over the years”, stated Doug Rowand, President of Arrowhead United Way.

With over 300 people in attendance, Arrowhead United Way honored corporate and community leaders again this year during an exciting rock and roll-themed event, emceed by Hardy Brown II, Executive Director of the Black Voice Foundation. “This is our way of saying thank you to our supporters who give of their financial and human resources all year long in support of efforts to improve community education, income, and health,” stated Knea Hawley, Vice President of Resource Development. Among those honored were Wells Fargo, San Bernardino City Unified School District, UPS, Macy’s, California State University San Bernardino, FedEx Corporation, Target, BNSF Railway, Southern California Edison, Kaiser Permanente, Bank of America, Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center, Costco Wholesale, Cargill, Inc., Inland Valley Development Agency, McLane Southern California, Southwest Gas Corporation, ITT Technical Institute, Caltrans District 8, the City of San Bernardino, Colton Joint Unified School District, the County of San Bernardino, Rialto Unified School District, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, and Patton State Hospital. The event was sponsored by BNSF Railway, Loma Linda University Adventist Health Sciences Center, San Bernardino Employment and Training Agency, Kohl’s Distribution Center, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, FedEx Corporation, Costco Wholesale, and Smith Marion and Company.

Arrowhead United Way is a volunteer driven organization that actively supports health and human services by focusing on education, income, and health. These services address the underlying causes of the community’s issues and create lasting change. The organization was established in 1891 and is led by prominent respected community leaders; it is one of the oldest United Ways in the country.
