Eleventh Annual Faith and Justice Summit scheduled March 17

(Redlands, CA, InlandEmpire.US) -The 11th annual Faith and Justice Summit, sponsored by the Inland Empire Cops and Clergy Network, will take place Thursday, March 17, at Brookside Free Methodist Church.

The annual summit brings together clergy, law enforcement personnel, government officials, members of civic and charitable organizations and the general public in a dialogue on issues affecting public safety and vibrant, healthy communities.

The theme for this year’s summit is “Exploring Partnerships Between Community and School.” Speakers include keynote speaker Brad W. Dacus, from the Pacific Justice Institute; and Tony Mueller, Director of Community Service Learning at the University of Redlands.

Workshop topics include Opportunities for Communities and Schools to Work Together, Value of Parenting Training, Benefits of Child Education and School Advocacy Parent Training, How Best to Respond to School and Community Violence, Introduction to Community and Student Mediation.

The Summit will also include a recognition and luncheon in honor of retiring Redlands Police Chief Jim Bueermann.

The Cops and Clergy Network came out of an informal coalition which began meeting in the fall of 1998.  The Inland Empire Cops and Clergy Network was co-founded by Chief Bueermann and Dr. Felix Roger Jones III, Pastor of All People Unity Baptist Church.

The Cops and Clergy Network was formally incorporated under the leadership of President and CEO, Dr. Jones in 2003 to further promote community involvement in police and civic matters.  The Inland Empire Cops and Clergy Network, now has several chapters in the region.

“I knew if we could just come together as human beings, rather than disparate community groups, something good would happen,” Jones said.

The annual Faith and Justice Summit has addressed issues such as preventing and responding to domestic violence; mobilizing the church, city and community in the event of disaster; igniting faith-based partnerships, and giving our youth a future, among other topics.

This year’s Faith and Justice Summit will take place Thursday, March 17, from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Brookside Free Methodist Church, 75 Tennessee St., Redlands, CA 92373.
