An Exclusive Artist / Curator Talk for Eretai: John Beech, Lael Marshall, David Rabinowitch, Michael Voss at RAM

The Riverside Art Museum (RAM) announces an exciting Artist / Curator Talk surrounding its current exhibition, Eretai: John Beech, Lael Marshall, David Rabinowitch, Michael Voss. The exhibition runs from January 12 to March 28, 2012, with a free to the public talk on Wednesday, February 29, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. No-host wine bar and light refreshments will be provided.
The Riverside Art Museum will host an exclusive and free artist / curator talk on Wednesday, February 29th, for Eretai. Comprised of four internationally-exhibited New York-based contemporary artists working in abstract painting and sculpture, the exhibition occupies both of RAM’s downstairs gallery spaces for an expansive group exhibition of a selection of artists, who, while working within similar arenas, have never before exhibited together. The discussion will feature Eretai artist David Rabinowitch, who divides his time between his studio in the Lower East Side of New York City and his home and studio in Riverside. Also featured is Eretai curator and RAM staff member Kathryn Poindexter and celebrated L.A.-based art critic and curator Peter Frank.
Rabinowitch, whose sculptures and drawings in the exhibition date from 1965, was a contemporary of numerous influential artists within the realms of minimalist and post modern art from the 1970s onward. Appointed a Guggenheim Fellow in 1973, Rabinowitch has held solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Galerie National du Jeu de Paume in Paris, and the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard, amongst many others. He has major works in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Museum of France, and the National Gallery of Canada. Rabinowitch was also a professor in the Graduate School of Sculpture at Yale University and retains his Professor Emeritus status at Kunst Academy Dusseldorf in Germany.
Peter Frank is the former Senior Curator at the Riverside Art Museum; he is currently an editor for the Huffington Post and Associate Editor for Fabrik magazine. He began writing for the Village Voice newspaper in New York in the 1970s and has curated over a dozen shows around the world including 19 Artists – Emergent Americans for the 1981 Exxon National Exhibition mounted at the Guggenheim Museum. The discussion will explore Rabinowitch’s multifarious influences and bodies of work, as well as the artist’s relationship to a diverse range of mediums and materials within the context of art history. Exhibition catalogs featuring essays by Peter Frank and Kathryn Poindexter will be available for purchase and signing in limited quantities.

A 50-plus-year-old, private, non-profit cultural arts institution housed in a National Historic 1929 building designed by Hearst Castle architect Julia Morgan, the museum welcomes over 50,000 visitors a year.
