Pomona, Ca – National Community Renaissance (National CORE), one of the nation’s most respected nonprofit community builders, will celebrate a quarter-century of transforming lives and communities on Nov. 2 when it hosts “An Evening of Hope” – its 25th Anniversary Gala in support of the Hope through Housing Foundation.
The gala, at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel and Conference Center in Pomona, CA, will celebrate the past, present and future of National CORE and Hope through Housing, highlighting the people, organizations and cities that have made their success possible. More than 1,000 attendees are expected.

Together with our supporters, National CORE and Hope through Housing have been able to create opportunities, inspire hope and transform the neighborhoods and communities we serve,” said Steve PonTell, President and Chief Executive Officer of National CORE.
National CORE traces its roots to 1992, when homebuilders Jeffrey S. Burum and Andrew B. Wright founded the nonprofit Southern California Housing Development Corporation to provide affordable housing for an underserved population. Seven years later, National Housing Development Corporation was founded to expand the organization’s reach. In 2006, the two organizations united to form a single non-profit, National Community Renaissance.
The organization has been a pioneer in the development of nonprofit housing in the United States. In 1996, the organization’s Heritage Pointe community in Rancho Cucamonga became the first affordable housing development in the U.S. built completely in-house by a nonprofit. Today, National CORE manages nearly 9,000 affordable, senior and market-rate units in California, Arkansas, Texas and Florida.
In 1998, the Hope through Housing Foundation was created as a separate nonprofit to provide services and raise funds to support programs for residents and communities. Hope Through Housing delivers an array of on-site, quality health and social services including family financial literacy, senior wellness activities, and quality preschool and afterschool programs.
Together, National CORE and Hope through Housing play a major role in several of the more notable community development projects in the country, including the Arrowhead Grove Neighborhood Revitalization effort on the site of the former Waterman Gardens public housing community in San Bernardino. The multimillion-dollar redevelopment plan calls for more than 400 housing units, and is being credited with transforming one of the city’s most challenged neighborhoods.

An Evening of Hope will feature special presentations to the City of Rancho Cucamonga (25th Anniversary Community Partner Award), Fire-N-Ice Heating and Air Conditioning (25th Anniversary Corporate Partner Award), and the family of the late Daniel R. Fauske (Founders Award). In honor of its 25thanniversary, National CORE will recognize one of its employees with the I Am Hope Award for embodying the values, mission and vision of the organization.
