The event features a keynote movement in the morning, led by Maura Townsend, Director of Project 21 Dance. Afternoon activities and sessions facilitated by county-based artists, city leaders, teachers and community organizers will guide attendees in participatory experiences to connect our personal and collective work at the intersections of art, education, community and economic development. Workshops topics include: creative entrepreneurship, artist-driven approaches to community stewardship and well-being, grassroots tools for advocating for greater access to the arts in our schools, and driving social movements with art and media.

“As an agency committed to cultivating a thriving and integrated presence for the arts in our communities across the region, Arts Connection has designed this conference to provide an engaging experience for creative people of all arts disciplines and associations to gather, share, and learn from each other,” notes Arts Connection’s Executive Director, Jennifer Kane. “San Bernardino Valley College is an incredible community resource and connection for all of this work and for the career pathways they offer students in the creative fields. We are proud to partner with them in presenting this conference.”

The conference concludes with an evening reception from 4-6pm, celebrating “Self and Place: ReFinding San Bernardino County,” a county-wide group exhibition opening at the Gresham Gallery on September 9, 2019 and culminating on the day of the conference. Continuing the theme of interconnectivity, the exhibition complements the content of the October 5th convening as a whole, by turning the walls of the gallery space into an immersive visual experience and dialogue that explore all aspects of living, working, and creating within the county.
