Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill Set For Oct. 17

San Bernardino, Ca – San Bernardino County school districts are preparing to take part in this year’s 12th annual Great ShakeOut earthquake drill on Oct. 17.
“One of the highest priorities for our schools is the safety of our students and staff, so I applaud our county’s school districts for taking part in this important exercise,” County Superintendent Ted Alejandre said. “The Great ShakeOut gives our schools and districts the opportunity to practice the emergency response and develop communication needed in the event of a devastating earthquake.”
At 10:17 a.m. on Oct. 17, students and staff will drop, cover and hold in a drill to replicate a catastrophic earthquake along the southern end of the San Andreas Fault. San Bernardino County is home to more than 406,000 public school students in 33 school districts with close to 540 school sites in grades from kindergarten through 12.
More than 10.3 million Californians have signed up to participate in this year’s drill, according to the Great California Shakeout website.
