Ontario, Ca– One hundred veterans and service members from World War II to the present will visit with students at Colony High School in Ontario on Thursday, November 7 – part of the school’s ongoing efforts to promote relationships and support between students and our local veterans.
This year’s Colony Commemorates event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon and will include service members from WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and Gulf War to the current Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts. The purpose is to show our appreciation and to acknowledge our local veterans as well as give these men and women a chance to share their stories with our Junior class.
“Colony Commemorates brings an authentic awareness of history to our school and helps students to have a deeper understanding of how service, sacrifice, and commitment are embodied in our nation’s patriots. The heroism of the veterans who participate is perpetuated as they recount their experiences to benefit our students,” said Principal Eric Danhof.
The school will provide breakfast and lunch to our veterans and the senior students who volunteer to be their personal assistants for the day, as well as lunch for all of our junior students (about 400) who participate in the event
Each veteran will receive a special 2019 Colony High School commemorative coin as a token of the school’s appreciation.
