Riverside, CA–At its annual all-staff event on November 2, Riverside Medical Clinic (RMC) honored two of its top employees with the prestigious 212 Degree Award. In 2011, Rosie Siordia and Dr. Jack Laurie were singled out by their colleagues for going the extra step to fulfill RMC’s patient care goals. In addition, Dr. Colin Christensen received the clinic’s first ever Standout of the Year Award.

The 212 Degree Award is part of RMC Signature, an internal program that instills RMC’s priorities throughout the organization for the benefit of its patients and the community. It is given to employees chosen by their fellow coworkers because they consistently go above and beyond. More than 800 employees in all departments are given a form to nominate a fellow employee. The 212 Degree award is presented to individuals who consistently, year after year, demonstrate the model of excellence RMC strives for.
This honor is called the 212 Degree award based on a video and book written by Sam Parker and Mac Anderson, The Simple Truths. The premise is this: at 211 degrees, water is hot; at 212 degrees, water boils, creating steam with which one can create power and can power the world. It’s the one extra degree that makes all the difference. The people that receive this award are at 212 degrees.
In addition to receiving an individual plaque, each recipient’s name is added to a perpetual trophy each year, showcased at RMC’s different locations throughout the year.
212 Degree Award Winners 2011
“Always goes above and beyond the call of duty.” “She always has the patient’s needs as a priority.” “She is a good motivator, a model employee for us all to emulate.” These were just some of the comments on the 212 Degree nomination forms for Rosie Siordia, Licensed Vocational Nurse in the Canyon Springs Urgent Care Department. Rosie, who has been with RMC since 1989, is considered a leader by her colleagues and sets the standard in a demanding and critical department.
Dr. Jack Laurie is a dedicated pediatrician, a loyal and committed physician, and a clinical champion for RMC’s conversion to using the Epic electronic medical records system. As one of three Epic clinical champions, Dr. Laurie was instrumental in the project’s successes in 2011. Dr. Laurie has been positive and helpful in all aspects since his arrival to RMC in 1985.
First Ever Standout of the Year Award
In addition, at the all staff event, family physician Dr. Colin Christensen received the very first Standout of the Year Award. Dr. Christensen, who joined RMC in January 2011, was honored for his outstanding ability to lead and be involved in the clinic, not only with his fellow physicians but also his office mates. He took a great interest in the clinic’s launch of EPIC (the new electronic medical records system) and became a super user for the clinic. Only a handful of people at the clinic are as adept at using the system as Dr. Christensen.
Dr. Christensen has been a positive influence and role model for the Corona Clinic and the entire network. “His comments and suggestions are constructive and thoughtful,” said Ruthan Smith, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development. “He was front and center to help his colleagues and the Corona staff, not only during the Epic go-live period, but always. He is a true team player, honest and respectful of administration, his colleagues and the employees.”
