February Events at the Fontana Community Senior Center

Fontana, California – The Mayor and City Council invite Fontana residents, ages 55 +, to the Fontana Community Senior Center to enjoy upcoming events this February.

The Senior Center would like you to be their Valentine at the Sweetheart Dance from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on February 11. If you have a valentine, are looking for one, or just want to have some fun, the Sweetheart Dance offers a chance to get out on the floor and boogie to some live entertainment and enjoy some light refreshments. Price of admission to the dance is only $3. All participants must be a senior or accompanied by a senior.

Additionally, there will be a special celebration for members who celebrate their birthday in the month of February. Enjoy a delicious meal and sing Happy Birthday to everyone who adds a birthday candle to their cake this month. The celebration takes place in the dining room during lunch hours, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, February 18. Lunch is $3 for seniors ages 55 and above, $5 for individuals under 54. Lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. So make sure to stop by and celebrate your birthday with your friends!

This month’s excursion will be to the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens. Located in Claremont, the garden is the largest botanic garden dedicated exclusively to California’s native plants. Transportation will leave the Senior Center at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 19. The cost will be only $19 and all participants must be a senior or accompanied by a senior.

The senior services transportation program offers rides to and from the center, as well as to a variety of retail and grocery stores, doctor offices and hospitals within Fontana city limits. The transportation program operates Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Riders can purchase an annual pass for $25, which includes unlimited round trips, or they can pay $1 per one-way trip. February is the beginning of tax season and the Fontana Community Senior Center is committed to making sure Fontana seniors are prepared. Starting Tuesday February 1, AARP will be at the center to help you prepare your 2011 taxes. No appointment is necessary and clients will be helped on a first come-first serve basis. This service is every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. throughout the month of February. Please note that participants must check in on-site prior to receiving assistance. Check in will begin at 8 a.m.

These events are not the only thing the senior center has to offer. The Center has a variety of daily activities such as clubs for knitting, billiards, cards, crafts, and even a dance club. Along with the clubs the Senior Center there are many amenities to keep you occupied, including a fitness room with equipment specifically designed for seniors and those with disabilities, a professional hair salon, two lounges, an arts and crafts room, an art gallery and a computer lab with 24 personal computers.

With all of these activities and more, there is no shortage of fun and exciting things to do at the Fontana Community Senior Center.
