Female Filmmaker Thrills At Big Bear Film Festival

Big Bear Lake, CA – Hot on the heels of Kathryn Bigelow’s historic win for Best Picture at this years Oscars, filmmaker/actor Marion Kerr will have be screening of her debut feature film as a writer/director in the suspense feature film, “Golden Earrings” at the Big Bear Lake Film Festival at the Village Theatre North, Saturday, September 18th at 10 am.

“I’ve been vacationing in Big Bear for years”, says Kerr, a graduate of the New York Film Academy, “but I never imagined my film would play at a film festival here. I can’t wait” “Golden Earrings” recently had its World Premiere at the Indie Spirit Film Festival in Colorado Springs where it took Best Horror Feature and screened at the Dances With Films Festival in L.A. “The fact that we won Best Horror Feature is kind of amazing to me”, noted Kerr, “considering when I set out to make this movie, I didn’t really even consider it a horror film.”

“Golden Earrings” is a psychological thriller about two young women who are best friends and whose intense relationship descends into chaos when one of the girls mysteriously disappears. The film, which is semi-autobiographical, was written by Kerr and co-produced with Brian James Crewe.

A private screening in Los Angeles late last year garnered excellent early reviews from film blogs, such as Fearnet.com and Cinematical.com, and, even veteran film directors, such as Joe Dante (director of “Gremlins”), Stuart Gordon (director of “The Re-Animator”) and Rian Johnson (director of “Brick” and “The Brothers Bloom”). Joe Dante called the film “an unexpected and carefully calculated chiller that delivers the goods with wit and economical style”, while Rian Johnson praised the film as “an effective and chilling little psychological horror movie, with a terrific lead performance”.

Kerr notes, “However, I won’t argue with our critics and when for me ‘Golden Earrings’ is a horror movie more in the vein of Hitchcock and Polanski rather than Saw or Friday the 13th.” Marion Kerr and her lead cast will be in attendance at this year’s festival.
