Fontana, California – The Mayor and City Council invite adults 55 and older to utilize the transportation program offered by the Fontana Community Senior Center.
Saturdays are usually a time for shopping, running errands and spending time with family and friends. But for seniors without an adequate mode of transportation or someone who is able to assist them with their transportation needs, these simple tasks may be out of the question. But the Fontana Community Senior Center may very well have the solution.
Since May 2010, the Fontana Community Senior Center has offered a demand response, ride share program for individuals 55 and older as well as special needs residents. The Saturday service for the transportation program is the perfect opportunity for Fontana residents over the age of 55 to run their errands over the weekend. Whether they want to take a trip to the grocery store, a local retail store or even to go to the Senior Center for a class, the transportation program can get them there for an affordable price and in a safe manner. Saturday transportation is available every Saturday (excluding holidays) from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. A transportation van pass is available for $25 for a calendar year and will allow participants an unlimited number of trips to any location within the Fontana boundaries. The transportation program also offers one way rides for $1. All riders must be over the age of 55 to participate in the program. (Exceptions can be made for caregivers who would need to ride the vehicle with a senior).
“The transportation program is an excellent resource to the senior community”, says Tiffany Starks, Community Services Coordinator. “It takes an obstacle (lack of transportation) that a lot of seniors face and alleviates that problem. This then allows the older adult community the chance to be more social and active within the City of Fontana.”
And don’t forget our transportation program operates during the week in addition to Saturdays. From Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm seniors 55 and older that reside in Fontana can get a ride to medical appointments, grocery stores or to the senior center for lunch.
