Fontana Working with Chaffey College to provide Options for Displaced Westech Students

Fontana, Ca –  Mayor Acquanetta Warren has been working with Chaffey College Administrators to offer the students displaced from the Westech College closure with options to continue their educational programs. Chaffey College will host two information sessions this week at the Fontana Campus located at 16855 Merrill Avenue- Wednesday, April 12th at 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 15th at 10:00 a.m. both in the Student Lounge, located in the Fontana Academic Center.

The information sessions will provide students assistance with all matriculation components of Chaffey College- application for admission, assessment, orientation, financial aid, and a review of prior completed coursework. The campus will have representatives from the Dean’s Office, Admissions and Records, Counseling, and Financial Aid. “At Chaffey College, we believe in education access,” stated Chaffey College Superintendent Dr. Henry Shannon. “The staff we will have at these information sessions will be able to provide face-to-face time with students, helping them answer all their questions. We never want an unanswered question to prevent a student from pursuing their academic endeavors.”

Chaffey College offers several similar programs to Westech College such as Medical Office Administration, Administrative Assistant, Professional Fitness Trainer Program, HVAC (offered in Tech Center), Computer Systems Technician and Design Drafting Technology.

Parking on campus will be free for participants in the workshop.

“We want Westech students to know that the City of Fontana supports their educational goals,” said Mayor Acquanetta Warren. “We encourage them to attend the information sessions to explore options.”

Westech College closed down its three Southern California campuses, including the main office in Fontana, due to financial reasons on April 3, 2017. City staff has already contacted several colleges and universities about the possibility of utilizing the building and coming to Fontana. “Our goal in Fontana is to have another college to serve our residents as quickly as possible, said Mayor Acquanetta Warren.”
