Four civic leaders to be sworn-in to San Bernardino Community College District Board of Trustees

Former Assemblymember John Longville, Gloria Macias Harrison, Frank Reyes and Anne Viricel will bring their knowledge and passion to expand college opportunity for local youth

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF. — The San Bernardino Community College District hold a public swearing-in for former Assemblymember John Longville, Gloria Macias Harrison, Frank Reyes and Anne Viricel to start their four-year terms on the district’s governing Board of Trustees. They were elected in the November 8 General Election and will advance the mission of SBCCD, which includes San Bernardino Valley College, Crafton Hills College, the Economic Development & Corporate Training division and KVCR, the region’s National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting System (PBS) television station.

Chancellor Bruce Baron said, “I am grateful that these dedicated public servants are bringing their knowledge and passion to the San Bernardino Community College District to help create more opportunities for our young people, our families and our community.”

John Longville was first elected to the SBCCD Board of Trustees in 2008. He previously served as a member of the California State Assembly (1998-2004), Mayor of Rialto (1987-1998), and member of the Rialto City Council (1978-1984 and 1986-1987). He will represent Area 3 in San Bernardino.

Frank Reyes previously was executive director of governmental affairs for the San Bernardino Community College District for more than 15 years. He also served as executive director of the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center Foundation. This is Reyes’ first term on the SBCCD Board of Trustees, representing Area 1 which includes portions of Rialto, Colton and Grand Terrace.

 Gloria Macias Harrison will take the oath of office administered by her husband Bill Harrison. Macias Harrison was first elected to the SBCCD Board of Trustees in 2012 after her retirement as President of Crafton Hills College. She also served as a governor’s appointee to the California Commission on the Status of Woman and Girls. Macias Harrison will represent Area 5 which includes the surrounding neighborhoods near Cal State San Bernardino.

Anne Viricel will take the oath of office administered by Margaret Hill, Board President of the San Bernardino Unified School District. Viricel is a professor at the University of Redlands School of Business where she has taught for 16 years. She is also executive director of the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra. Viricel was appointed to the SBCCD Board of Trustees in 2015 to fill a vacancy. This is Viricel’s first election to represent Area 7 in Highland.
