TEMECULA, CA (September 10, 2013). The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation are partnering to host a benefit concert on November 2ndto honor local hometown hero, US Army Staff Sergeant Matt Lammers. The concert, featuring Gary Sinise & The Lt. Dan Band, will be held at Temecula City Hall and will kick off Operation Matt, a community-wide effort to raise funds to build SSG. Lammers a Smart Home in Temecula. A press conference regarding the construction of Matts new home and the benefit concert will take place at City Hall on September 11th at 9:11 a.m.
SSG. Lammers received two Purple Hearts while serving in Iraq. On June 10th, 2007 while he and his men were returning from a mission to their base in Baghdad, their humvee drove over an EFP (explosive formed projectile), which caused Matt to loose both legs and his left arm.
Everyone keeps calling me a hero and I have a hard time with that, said Matt Lammers. I was just a soldier doing my job. The heroes are the men and women still over there and those who are no longer with us. I got to come back. Thats a blessing.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation joined forces in 2011 to establish the Building for Americas Bravest program that involves building customized Smart Homes for Americas most seriously injured veterans such as SSG. Lammers. All funds raised at the benefit concert will go to Operation Matt (www.OperationMatt.com) to support the building of Lammers new Smart Home.
It is important to stop and pay tribute to those who have sacrificed the most for our country, like SSG. Matt Lammers, said actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise. We were privileged last year honoring USMC Cpl. Juan Dominguez here in Temecula where the community has been so supportive. I hope folks will attend the concert here for Matt and help him reclaim his mobility and independence as well.
Upon completion of his Smart Home next year, Matt and his family will move here where he will continue to work with doctors. The overwhelming support the Temecula community has given to my fellow veteran Juan Dominguez is truly incredible, said Lammers. Because of that, and my friendship with Juan and his wife Alexis, we feel right at home here.
