Get Outdoors! OC Event Encourages Families to Take the Fun Outside

YUCAIPA, CA – Orange County Department of Education’s Inside the Outdoors program will host the annual Get Outdoors! OC event at the Wildlands Conservancy at Oak Glen Preserve in Yucaipa on Saturday, April 16th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. The event challenges families to get outdoors and enjoy all that the surrounding landscape has to offer.

The event will be held at the Wildlands Conservancy at Los Rios Ranch, located at 39611 Oak Glen Road in Yucaipa. Families will have the opportunity to take a hike with an experienced Naturalist, learn about native plants and animals, and participate in educational activities from Outdoor Science School. The Wildlands Conservancy will also lead families on a Night Discovery Walk, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Studies show improvements in health metrics, social skills, and academic scores when children participate in outdoor education and other nature-based activities. Inside the Outdoors aims to instill in children a lifelong love of nature and provides programs that support families to learn about the outdoors and the endless hours of free fun it provides.

William M. Habermehl, Orange County Superintendent of Schools stated, “As summer fast approaches, the Get Outdoors! OC event serves as a reminder to families that any place can be a place to play. With trees to climb, rocks to skip, and trails to explore, nature is the ultimate playground.”

Inside the Outdoors stimulates the boundless wonder children have for the natural world around them. Each year, over 150,000 students participate in Inside the Outdoors programs where they explore lessons from nature ranging from watershed education to health education.

The event is grant funded and free to the public. No R.S.V.P. is required. For more information, visit www.insidetheoutdoors.org or call 714-708-3885.
