Help the Salvation Army as Radio Operator

Amateur radios are not difficult to operate and greatly assist The Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network in their communication efforts as they and other Salvation Army volunteers provide refreshment to firefighters on the front line. SATERN will conduct a licensing workshop and exam Saturday, May 21 at the Riverside Corps, 3695 First St., Riverside

(RIVERSIDE, Calif.) The Inland Empire (Riverside and San Bernardino County) Section of the Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network (SATERN) will host an amateur radio licensing class Saturday, May 21 at the Riverside Salvation Army Corps, 3695 First Street, Riverside, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

The class will cover the Technician License exam required by the Federal Communications Commission to operate an amateur radio. SATERN will host a license exam session after the class, starting at 5 p.m.

To take the exam, bring a valid photo identification and either a Social Security card or FCC-issued federal registration number.

Check-in for the class is from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. There will be a short break for lunch, but participants are asked to bring their own sack lunch.

To prepare for the class, participants should take free practice exams offered at http://www.qrz.com/xtest2.html or http://kb0mga.net/exams/ several times. Several license study guides are available at  http://www.arrl.org/catalog/ .
