Hip Church Celebrates Halloween with New Home in Riverside

Who: Sandals Church, a mostly young congregation of approximately 3,000

Where: 150 Palmyrita, Riverside, a 149,000 square foot new building built as a warehouse. Phase 1 of its transformation into a church is now complete, with a sanctuary and a place for child care. Much more transformation planned in months and years to come, with meeting rooms for older children and teens, a larger sanctuary and possibly a gymnasium.

When: Sunday, Oct. 31

What: First services in new building (8:15 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:45 a.m.) and Trunk or Treat,  (5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.) which is a Halloween party for kids featuring 105 decorated cars and trucks filled with candy. Highgrove families are especially encouraged to join the Sandals regulars for any of this, as Sandals has begun ministries to its new community already, and wants to continue that in an increased way now that the building is open.

Sandals has met various places since 1997, including eight years in the gymnasium of California Baptist University. Its three morning services had been meeting for the last five months at Arlington Seventh Day Adventist Church, while two identical services offered on Sunday nights (other than Halloween) worshipped at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church. 150 Palmyrita will be the first building owned and used exclusively by Sandals Church.

Visuals: Morning – Brand new sanctuary that seats 905 people and will probably be overflowing with families engaging in contemporary worship; Evening – Hundreds of children, adults and cars dressed in cute Halloween costumes
