Honoring our Veterans

Fontana, California. The Mayor and City Council, along with American Legion Post 772, invite the public to honor our war veterans at the Fontana Veterans Day Celebration.

November 11 marks a special day for our country, honoring veterans for their sacrifice and willingness to serve in the US Military. The Veterans Day Celebration takes place on Thursday, November 11 at 11:00 am at the Veterans Memorial Rose Garden, located next to the Art Depot Gallery at 16830 Spring Street in Fontana.

This annual event recognizes our veterans’ service by hosting a writing contest in which youth answer the question, “What does Veterans Day mean to you?” three winners who will have the opportunity to read their poem or essay to the veterans.

Other activities include the traditional presentation of colors by the Fontana High School Junior ROTC Color Guard, 21-gun salute by the JROTC Rifle Guard and the national anthem played by the Fontana High School Band.

Local veterans from American Legion Post 772 judge submissions. Although there are only three winners, “Our veterans enjoy reading all of the essays,” said Commander Joe Dean. The top three winners also receive a United States Savings Bond.

Following the celebration, Post 772 will provide a free luncheon. Post 772 is located at 16767 Spring Street, next to the Memorial Rose Garden.
