IE Business Doctors, Office of Business Development launch workshops series

Seminars focus on issues facing small businesses

SAN BERNARDINO, CA (Jan. 3, 2010) – The City of San Bernardino Economic Development Agency,Office of Business Development kicks off a 12-week series of business workshops on, Tuesday, Jan. 11.

The first seminar is titled “Business Management Skills & Training.” The workshops are held in conjunction with the IE Business Doctors who will provide the expert speakers. The IE Business Doctors are a professional business group who volunteer their time to engage in activities designed to support the small business sector of the Inland Empire.

The first workshop will consist of two segments “The Psychology of Entrepreneurship and Commercial Banking & Loans.” Both segments will be taught by Gene Valdez, vice president of Community Bank, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Jan. 11, at the Office of Business Development, 201-B, North E. St., Suite 200 in San Bernardino. Attendance costs $20, but if attendees enroll for up to six workshops, the cost drops to $10 per session.  “In the current economic climate it is important to understand the mental aspects of entrepreneurship and further what kind of information is needed to secure a business loan,” Valdez said.

Upcoming seminars will focus on effective business planning, public relations, social media, financing, debt cancellation, leasing commercial real estate, managing payroll costs and insurance.  The next IE Business Doctors workshop, titled “Effective Business Planning & Business Processes,” is scheduled for Jan. 18.

Lori Tillery, economic development manager for the City of San Bernardino Economic Development Agency, said hosting the workshops is part of the Office of Business Development’s goal to serve as a resource center for local entrepreneurs.

“Small business owners often need help growing their companies,” Tillery said.  “We want them to see the Office of Business Development as a place they can come for answers and assistance. The IE Business Doctor workshop series and their speakers offer a great deal of information for entrepreneurs.”
